The "Mont de Piété" is a true public institution. Created in 1618, it is the only institution allowed to practice pawnbroking in Belgium. The current building of the "Mont de Piété" was built in 1865 and required a restoration of its external envelope but also a renovation of the interior spaces.

Thus, the mission included on the one hand the historical and typological studies, the identification of materials, pathologies, and options for the restoration of the monument and on the other hand the reorganization and modernization of the interior spaces.

With 6,000m² of gross floor area, the work was divided into several phases:

  • Phase 1 : Restoration of the facades and roofs, renovation of the left wing and the ticket offices

  • Phase 2 : Work on the sales room and counters, landscaping work on the gardens

  • Phase 3 : Renovation of the right wing and the rear buildings (former stables)
