Villa VJ is the thorough renovation of a single-family home from the 1970s, originally built in white brick with pitched roofs, located in the green southern outskirts of Brussels. Starting from the existing structure, the house undergoes a complete transformation: enclosed spaces are opened up to create a maximum connection with the surrounding nature.
An additional floor has been added on top of the existing structure, accommodating the master bedroom and a workspace. With its wide panoramic windows and cantilever over the ground floor, this new volume offers sweeping views of the surroundings. On the ground floor, the existing footprint is expanded with a new kitchen volume oriented towards the entrance of the plot.
The renovation also included an energy-efficient upgrade of the building envelope and the integration of the latest technologies to provide contemporary comfort. The façade and roof have been completely renewed, with meticulous attention to the detailing of the brickwork and joinery in close collaboration with various partners. For the interior, close cooperation with interior architect Philip Simoen ensured a harmonious and consistent whole, where architecture and interior design merge seamlessly.
