The classified Botanical Garden and its former orangery, today the cultural center "Le Botanique", although deeply modified over time, constitute an exceptional patrimonial ensemble. The location of the new building is a "gateway" to the Garden with Victoria Square Regina, which could form, after its redevelopment and with the new building, a landscaped reception area and mark the transition between an urban space and a Public park along Victoria Boulevard Regina. This context inspired the typology and architectural writing of the new building.

The program of the new building was determined by the design office with the services of Brussels-Environment. The building is reserved for gardeners, park wardens and management staff. It includes dressing rooms, sanitary facilities, a canteen, an infirmary, offices and / or meeting rooms, a work area, a small sheltered storage area and a parking space for 5 pickup trucks. This functional program is complemented by a public sanitary ware, a work area and external waste sorting.

The main volume of the building follows the shape of a slope, with a curved structure on which a green roof will be created.
This volume is pierced with portholes in order to naturally illuminate the two levels. A second building overhanging the façade structures the organic architecture and articulates the main volume to the garden.

The architectural complex thus formed has an identity intended to, on the one hand, valorize the work of gardeners and park wardens, on the other hand, to integrate in the patrimonial context of the Botanical Garden.

The building will be erected as a passive building. The building is heated by a condensing gas boiler. Particular attention will be paid to the total sealing of the building. The building will be illuminated by LED lighting controlled by a home automation system in order to guarantee a constant lighting level. The ventilation system is type D (exhaust and extraction, with heat exchange). The technical installations of the building are all in the cellar. Thus, all acoustic nuisances are eliminated, the installations are easily accessible for maintenance and the roof can truly be a green roof, without pipes on the roof. The main roof of the building is a green roof. This increases the inertia of the building.
